Concrete Structures and Floors Ltd were contracted by Intelle Construction Ltd to construct a 28-storey apartment block in the centre of Cardiff for developer Urban Centric. When we were awarded the project it was to be Cardiff’s tallest building, and firmly established our position as the region’s concrete frame contractor of choice.
Due to complete in 2024, the 'build to rent' development will offer a total of 188 apartments comprising of 120 one-bed, 66 two-bed and 2 three-bed apartments. In addition, the development will offer tenants a co-working space, residents lounge, fitness suite, two roof terraces, cycle storage and car parking. The position of the tower at Crawshay Court on Curran Road to the south side of Cardiff Railway Station, offers easy access to the city centre and public transport links.
Along with its prime location, one of the key features of the Gramercy Tower design is the planned 21st Floor Winter Garden, offering communal year round outdoor space, with iconic views across the city. See below for a computer generated image of the development.
To create the concrete frame, over the course of the 12 month build, we installed over 1,600 tonnes of reinforcing steel and poured over 6,500m3 of concrete. Our experienced team overcame the challenges of the shape of the plot, tight access in a city centre location and some of the worst wind and rain we've ever seen. We can, however, confirm that view from the top is incredible! See below for some 'in progress' photos.
Catella European Residential Fund III, who aquired the development in a forward funding deal in 2022, prior to the start of the construction said: "Gramercy Tower is an excellent addition to the fund’s growing UK residential portfolio and demonstrates its continued ambition to invest in the UK residential market. The asset will be developed by placing ESG at the forefront of its design, delivering a sustainable development in line with the fund’s environmental and social impact investment strategy" Read more here.
Gramercy Tower, along with other developments, will deliver significant change to Cardiff's skyline. It's great to see that the development has attracted the attention of Skyscaper City - a global community dedicated to skyscrapers, cities, urban development, and the metropolitan environment.
