In late 2023, we started work with JG Francis Construction on the refurbishment of Shed 11, a grain storage facility, at ABP's Newport Docks in South Wales. The Port of Newport handles more than £1bn of trade annually with multi-modal freight facilities, deep-sea access and direct links to the national rail and motorway network. The work at Shed 11 is part of a larger investment by Associated British Ports, to regenerate about 95 acres across two sites at the Port of Newport, and could create more than 50 jobs.
Concrete Structures and Floors Ltd, was contracted for the replacement of 10,500sqm of reinforced concrete floor slab with the addition of an anti-dust polished finish. Working with the client we developed the pour layout to ensure that the program targets could be met.
Following behind the ground workers, we installed 600mm shutter separating the pours, and 2 layers of A393 mesh reinforcement in the slab. A393 reinforcement mesh is a popular form of steel fabric known for its tensile strength and is used across construction for various heavy-duty applications.
In total we completed 10 pours, using 2500m3 concrete delivered by Cemex. An anti-dusting sealant was applied after each slab had been powerfloated to ensure the concrete is well sealed.
Our expert installers produced an excellent, extremely durable power floated finish that will last for years.
